Blue green monoclinic crystal or particles, odorless. It is weathered in dry air and oxidized to brown basic ferric sulfate on the surface in humid air. It becomes tetrahydrate at 56.6 ℃ and monohydrate at 65 ℃. Soluble in water, almost insoluble in ethanol. Its aqueous solution oxidizes slowly in the air when it is cold and quickly when it is hot. Adding alkali or dew light can accelerate its oxidation. The relative density (D15) was 1.897. It's irritating. Anhydrous ferrous sulfate is a white powder. The crystal containing crystal water is light green crystal. The crystal is commonly known as "green alum". It is light green when dissolved in aqueous solution. Ferrous sulfate can be used as a chromatographic reagent for the determination of platinum, selenium, nitrite and nitrate. Ferrous sulfate can also be used as reducing agent, ferrite, water purification, polymerization catalyst, photographic plate making, etc.

Function and purpose
Ferrous sulfate can be used to make iron salt, iron oxide pigment, mordant, water purification agent, preservative, disinfectant, etc;
1. Water treatment
Ferrous sulfate is used for flocculation purification of water and removal of phosphate from municipal and industrial sewage to prevent eutrophication of water.
2. Reducing agent
A large amount of ferrous sulfate is used as reducing agent, mainly reducing chromate in cement.
Ferrous sulfate is used to treat iron deficiency anemia; it is also used to add iron to food. Long term excessive use may cause side effects such as abdominal pain and nausea.
In medicine, it can also be used as local astringent and blood tonic, and can be used for chronic bleeding caused by hysteromyoma.
a. Ferrous sulfate is used in the production of tannic acid ink and other inks. The mordant for wood dyeing also contains ferrous sulfate.
b. Ferrous sulfate can be used to dye concrete yellow rust.
c. Carpenter uses ferrous sulfate to dye Maple with silver color.
Regulating soil pH, promoting the formation of chlorophyll (also known as iron fertilizer), can prevent and control the yellow disease of flowers and trees caused by iron deficiency. It is an indispensable element for acid loving flowers and trees, especially for iron trees. In agriculture, it can also be used as pesticide to control wheat smut, scab of apple and pear, rot of fruit tree, and fertilizer to remove moss and lichen of trunk.
6. Analytical chemistry
Ferrous sulfate can be used as a chromatographic reagent.
Packaging and storage
In summer, the shelf life is 30 days, and the outer packing is 50kg and 25kg woven bags respectively.
Storage precautions: store in a cool and ventilated warehouse. Keep away from fire and heat. Protect from direct sunlight. The package must be sealed from moisture. It shall be stored separately from oxidant and alkali, and mixed storage shall be avoided. The storage area shall be equipped with appropriate materials to contain the leakage.
